EC 261/2004 is a European Union regulation establishing common rules on compensation and assistance to passengers in the event of denied boarding, flight cancellations, or long delays. It applies to all flights departing from an EU airport, and to flights arriving in the EU operated by an EU-based carrier. Eligible passengers may claim between €250 and €600 depending on flight distance — regardless of the ticket price paid.
