1. Who we are
FlightRights.net is an independent affiliate website. We help passengers understand their rights under EU Regulation EC 261/2004 and connect them with AirHelp, a professional flight compensation company. We are not AirHelp and do not process claims on your behalf.
Data controller: FlightRights.net
Contact: legal@flightrights.net
We have not appointed a Data Protection Officer as we do not engage in large-scale processing of personal data. For all data protection inquiries, please use the contact email above.
2. Data we collect
We minimise the personal data we process. We do not ask you to create an account, submit a form, or provide any personal information on this site. However, certain data is collected automatically:
- Technical server logs — IP address and browser type, processed automatically by our hosting provider Hostinger for security and performance purposes. IP addresses are personal data under GDPR; Hostinger retains these logs for 30 days.
- Cookie consent preference — we store your cookie consent choice in your browser's local storage (
fr-cookie-consent). This is strictly necessary for remembering your preference and does not leave your device. - Theme preference — your light/dark theme choice is stored in local storage (
fr-theme). This data does not leave your device.
When you click a link to AirHelp on this site, you are redirected to the Travelpayouts affiliate network, which may set tracking cookies on the Travelpayouts/AirHelp domain. These cookies are not set on flightrights.net and are governed by Travelpayouts' Privacy Policy and AirHelp's Privacy Policy.
3. Local storage we use
This site uses browser local storage (not cookies) to remember your preferences. No tracking or analytics cookies are set on flightrights.net.
4. Legal basis for processing
Where data processing occurs, we rely on the following legal bases under GDPR:
- Legal obligation — server security logs retained by Hostinger to meet hosting and security obligations.
- Legitimate interest — storing strictly necessary preferences (theme, consent choice) to provide a functioning website experience.
5. Third parties
We work with the following third parties:
- AirHelp (airhelp.com) — flight compensation claims processing. When you follow a link to AirHelp, their privacy policy governs any data you provide to them.
- Travelpayouts (travelpayouts.com) — affiliate network. When you click an affiliate link, Travelpayouts may set tracking cookies on their own domain to attribute referrals. Travelpayouts acts as an independent data controller for this data.
- Hostinger International Ltd — web hosting and infrastructure, based in the EU (Lithuania). Technical server logs are retained by Hostinger for 30 days.
6. International data transfers
Our hosting infrastructure (Hostinger) is located within the European Union. We do not directly transfer personal data outside the EEA. When you click through to third-party services (AirHelp, Travelpayouts), any data transfers are governed by those services' own privacy policies and safeguards.
7. Your rights under GDPR
As a resident of the European Economic Area, you have the following rights regarding any personal data we process:
- Right of access (Art. 15) — request a copy of any personal data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification (Art. 16) — request correction of inaccurate data.
- Right to erasure (Art. 17) — request deletion of your data where no legal basis for retention exists.
- Right to restriction of processing (Art. 18) — request that we limit how we use your data in certain circumstances.
- Right to data portability (Art. 20) — request your data in a machine-readable format.
- Right to object (Art. 21) — object to processing based on legitimate interest.
- Right to withdraw consent (Art. 7(3)) — where we process data based on your consent, you may withdraw it at any time. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal. You can manage your preferences via the “Cookie Settings” link in the footer of any page.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at legal@flightrights.net. We will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection supervisory authority.
8. Data retention
- Server logs: 30 days, retained by Hostinger.
- Local storage data: Stored in your browser until you clear it or reset your cookie preferences.
- Personal data: We do not store personal data on our own systems.
9. Automated decision-making
We do not engage in automated decision-making or profiling as defined under Article 22 of the GDPR.
10. Children's privacy
This site is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at legal@flightrights.net.
